This painting features the world famous 11th Hole at Merion Golf Club; the hole where Bobby Jones completed the fourth and final
leg of the Grand Slam during the 1930 US Amateur. Jones defeated Gene Homans 8 and 7 in front of a gallery of 18,000 golf fans.
Commissioned for the 1992 Jack Nicklaus TV Special on ABC Sports, this painting was one of 4 paintings I did for the prime time
special where Jack Nicklaus was superimposed on the screen; walking the audience through the strategy of playing one of the
toughest holes in major championship golf.
A short par 4 of 369 yards, the 11th hole is very deceptive at first blush. The drive must be placed on the flat landing area in the
fairway and any tee shot hooked will find Cobb's Creek on the left. Tee shots hit too long will find heavy rough bringing the
Babbling Brook, which guards the green, into play. One more thing about the Babbling Brook; it's out of bounds!
