Juneau In Juneau we had to see the Glaciers and did a little site seeing in the hills above town - we didn't spend much time in town.

Ali & Nan took a float plane over a Glacier The glacier's blue ice is formed from years of packed snow - the packed snow is slowly flowing down the mountain. The ice becomes so densely packed that only the color blue can be seen (something to do with blue having the shortest wave length (and the reason the sky is blue)). Unfortunately, this was the most overcast day of the trip.

My father, Ryan and I took a helicopter to the Mendenhall Glacier for a walk about
The orange thing on the glacier is our landing site - just to it's right is the other helicopter we flew in with
The glacial melt creates random patterns of rivers and crevasses of
various sizes on the glaciers.
Scattered puddles of icy water (some deep, others not so deep) were found everywhere
So were bundled photographers
As the glacier flows down hill, it scrapes away the
earth leaving an interesting trail of rocks
