Introduction to my website.

vintage ACTION man - a personal collection of figures and memories

My name is Trevor.  Welcome to my website - Vintage Action Man, my personal collection.

I was born in 1961 and Action Man was, when introduced in the UK  in 1966, a perfect toy for me.  I had a number of figures and outfits over several years.  Red Devil, Astronaut and Arctic Explorer with husky dogs & sled, flock hair, talking Action Man and many more are the ones I recall.

I can't ever remember specifically losing interest or throwing any Action Men away but they're long since gone. I'll blame my Mum for that and, as she'll never look at a computer, never mind 'surf the net', I know I'll get away with this.

In more recent years I have often thought about coming across a figure or two.  But car boots and toy fairs are not for me so subsequently I hadn't seen an original Action Man since the age of about 11 or 12.

Then, just very recently, a friend mentioned ebay and there he was  - 'Vintage Action Man'.  Lots of the ones I remember and many I don't.  All for sale and plenty of them.  Either complete outfits, just figures or many items on their own. My initial response was to buy many items but I soon realised (my wallet told me) that I had to be more specific than that.

I started to research specific figures and outfits and my collection started.  I'm learning all the time and my collection is growing.  I prefer the early original figure in soldier uniforms and usually the rarer ones.

Many people selling Action Man figures and outfits know far more than I do.  I have come across some great people who are always willing to give information and great advice.

This website is a culmination of my rediscovered interest for a toy that cultivates a feeling of nostalgia and many memories for me, together with an interest in graphics, photography and web design.  This will never be an award winning website, I didn't set out to do that and there is still a bit more to do on it.  If nothing else it has given me a lot of pleasure in producing it and I'm really looking forward to finishing it - or will it ever end?

Also whilst I have been in collecting mode I've come across other toys and figures that I remember from back then or new figures that grab me in the same way now that Action Man did back then.  Marx figures such as Johnny West and the Silver Knight are toys I now remember.  But new Dragon figures and Home Front figures fill me with the same childlike excitement.  And now other 60's memorabilia toys have caught my eye - such as Dinky Toy's Captain Scarlet SPV &  Joe 90 car and Corgi's James Bond Aston Martin and even Robertson's Gollies.

If just one other person gets something from this website it will be a bonus.  I hope you enjoy the site, e-mail me with your thoughts from my 'contact me' page.

Thanks for looking.

Trevor
